Florence School District Three held a Future Teacher College Signing Day for seniors who plan to major in education after graduating high school in the lobby of Lake City High School’s gym on Wednesday, May 1.

Shemar Thomas plans to attend South Carolina State University, while Arianna Simmons plans to enroll at Benedict College, and Sharmeka Graham plans to attend Francis Marion University.

The students, who plan to enroll in their chosen universities in the fall, were presented with gifts and notes of encouragement prior to the signing ceremony. Three LCHS graduates currently majoring in education were also present for the event and offered encouragement and advice to the high school students.

The students were given an agreement with the district that assures them of an early interview and preferred hiring once they complete their degrees and receive South Carolina teacher certification.

The agreement states that FSD3 will provide the students with an early interview opportunity for teaching positions within the District upon completing their teacher education program. In addition, the district agrees to give preference to the students when considering them for teaching positions within the district, provided that they meet all certification requirements in South Carolina.
