Florence County School District Three celebrated Dr. Ronald E. McNair Day Thursday with a program at Ronald E. McNair Junior High School featuring student performances and a guest speaker.

The REM eighth-grade band, Lake City Early Childhood Center Pantherettes, Olanta Elementary School third-grade classes and the J. Paul Truluck Intermediate School seventh- and eighth-grade chorus and show choir all performed during the program.

Ra’Shaud Graham, a sixth-grade social studies teacher at JPT, was the guest speaker. Mr. Graham is a graduate of Lake City High School and The Citadel, where he served as leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served in prominent roles in the Corps of Cadets.

Mr. Graham spoke about the program’s theme, “Great Accomplishments, Great Expectations,” and how it applies to both Dr. McNair and students today. “The expectations for us are high because Dr. McNair set the standard,” he said. “You have to set the expectations for yourself and you have to believe that you can do it. Dr. McNair showed us it’s possible.
