Board Ends Mask Mandate in Schools

The Florence School District 3 Board of Trustees voted Thursday to end the district’s mask mandate for students, staff and others inside district facilities.

Students and staff riding on buses must still wear a mask. The masking requirement on school buses is a mandate from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

All district facilities will continue to have masks available for anyone who prefers to wear one.

Ending the mask mandate comes as COVID-19 numbers in schools have dropped since January. The district implemented the mask mandate on September 7, 2021, to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The district will also stop students and staff daily temperature checks unless an individual exhibits COVID-19 symptoms. Employees will no longer have to complete a daily online health survey.

The district will continue to monitor COVID conditions.
