Community Mini-Libraries to Promote Reading

FSD3, Partners to Promote Reading with Mini-Libraries in Community
Posted on 05/23/2024

Florence School District 3 is partnering with the Friends of the Lake City Library and local artist Herman Keith for Florence 3 Reads, an effort to enhance the district’s 30 for 30 Reading Initiative, which began two years ago.

The 30 for 30 Reading Initiative encourages students to read independently each day for 30 minutes at school and 30 minutes at home.

During FSD3’s summer learning program, art students will work with Mr. Keith to design the mini-library boxes, while other students will work with Jimmy Hudson, Lake City High School’s building construction teacher, to build the boxes that will be placed in communities served by FSD3.

FSD3 is holding a book drive from May 22 through June 5 to stock the mini-libraries with both new and gently used books. Deposit boxes for book donations are located at Lake City High School, Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy, Creative Arts and Science Magnet School and the FSD3 District Office.
