Academically Gifted and Talented (See Brochure at right.)

Florence County School District Three provides educational services for students determined eligible for service in the academically gifted and talented Program. The district utilizes the state criteria for identification, placement and removal of Gifted and Talented students.

Gifted students are identified in Grades 2-10 as demonstrating performance ability or potential in academic and/or artistic areas and require an academic program beyond that normally provided by the general school program in order to achieve (R43-220).

TAG Identification

A student must meet 2 of the 3 dimensions to qualify for TAG services.

Dimension A (Reasoning Abilities/Aptitude)-93% or higher

Dimension B (High Achievement in Reading and/or Mathematics)-94% or higher

Dimension C (Intellectual/Academic Performance)-STAR Performance Task -scores depend on the grade level of the student

Grades 7-12 can use GPA if 3.75 or higher on ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language

Academic TAG Programs

The Elementary TAG (Talented and Gifted) Program is housed at each elementary school. See Elementary Handbook at right.

The Middle Schools offer TAG ELA and Math classes, as well as English 1 and Algebra 1.

Lake City High School offers Honors classes for the Gifted and Talented students, as well as Ensemble, Art 3, and Symphonic Band.
