Cooperative LIGHT was proud to donate $5,000 to Florence County School District 3 (FSD3), which was then matched through CoBank’s Sharing Success program to make the donation a total of $10,000.

The $10,000 donation was given to support FSD3 health services supervisor Jennifer Lyerly’s effort to obtain new AED machines and “Stop the Bleed” equipment for the district. Both types of equipment could be life-saving for students and teachers.

Cooperative LIGHT is Santee Electric Cooperative’s (SEC) non-profit foundation that began in 2022. The mission of Cooperative LIGHT is to empower children by providing access to essential resources and opportunities, ensuring that no child is limited by their circumstances. Cooperative LIGHT works closely with schools to establish the needs of students. The organization serves the communities in Santee Electric’s service territory: Williamsburg, Clarendon, Georgetown, and Florence counties.

“We are proud to support this initiative that FSD3 is tackling. When Nurse Lyerly brought up the idea, we knew that Cooperative LIGHT should support this,” says Megan Blackburn, SEC Executive Assistant. “CoBank has been an extremely valuable lending partner of Santee Electric for many years, and their Sharing Success program is one of the great benefits they provide. It helped us to donate more towards this great cause.”

CoBank is a national cooperative bank with a Sharing Success program, a fund that matches the contributions from Santee Electric Cooperative. Santee Electric Cooperative has participated in the Sharing Success program for fifteen years.

“We are so grateful for this donation. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is the ultimate goal. Through generous donations like this one, we can,” says Mrs. Lyerly.
