Florence School District 3’s Maintenance Department recently completed the installation of 157 LED exterior light fixtures at eight campuses throughout the district.

Campuses receiving the upgrades were J.C. Lynch Elementary, Lake city Early Childhood Center, Main Street Elementary, Olanta Creative Arts and Science Magnet, J. Paul Truluck Creative Arts and Science Magnet, Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior high, Lake City High School and Graham Road.

As a result, all campuses in the district now have energy efficient exterior LED fixtures that not only greatly reduce energy consumption, but also improve lighting output, safety and security.  Annual energy savings are projected to be $13,862 per year with a total savings of $207,942 over the 15-year life cycle of the fixtures.

Environmental benefits include:

  • Greenhouse gas reductions equivalent to 213,628 miles driven by vehicles
  • CO2 reduction equivalent to 10 homes’ energy use for one year
  • Greenhouse gas avoid equivalent to 20 tons of waste recycled instead of landfilled.

Funding ($10,000) for the project was provided by a competitive mini-grant administered by the State Energy Office – SC Office of Regulatory Staff and Energy Office Competitive Demonstration Project Mini-Grants.
