Florence School District 3 proudly celebrated the aspirations of its future educators during a special Future Teacher College Signing Day ceremony on Thursday, May 1. The event took place in the boardroom at FSD3’s district office and honored graduating seniors who plan to pursue degrees in education.
Five students participated in the celebration, officially committing to institutions where they will begin their journey toward becoming certified teachers. Hannah Cole, Trinadee McGee, and Courtney Watford announced their plans to attend Francis Marion University. Tyre Singletary will continue his education at Voorhees University, and Cameron Strickland will attend the University of South Carolina.
"We are incredibly proud of these young leaders and their commitment to shaping the future through education," said Superintendent Dr. Laura Hickson. "Our district is committed to supporting them throughout their academic journey and looks forward to welcoming them back as professional educators."
As part of the district’s ongoing effort to grow and invest in homegrown talent, each student was presented with a signed agreement offering a future opportunity with Florence School District 3. This agreement ensures an early interview for teaching positions within the district upon successful completion of their teacher preparation programs and attainment of South Carolina teacher certification. Additionally, the district pledges to give hiring preference to these students as qualified applicants.
The students spoke about specific teachers that inspired them to pursue a career in education, and the teachers, in turn, stood with the students as they signed the agreement.
Each student received thoughtful gifts and handwritten notes of encouragement from district staff and supporters prior to the signing ceremony, highlighting the district’s excitement and support for their career paths.
