
Florence School District 3’s Board of Trustees recognized two students during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 24, for being selected as South Carolina Junior Scholars.
Jaxson Gunnells and Fredrick Richey, both students at J. Paul Truluck Creative Arts and Science Magnet School, were named Junior Scholars based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT.
The South Carolina Junior Scholars Program identifies academically talented eighth-grade students across the state. Students qualify for the program by scoring 550 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing portion of the PSAT/NMSQT or 530 or higher on the Mathematics portion of the test.
Junior Scholar recipients receive an Award of Merit certificate and a Junior Scholar bumper sticker. They may also be recognized at local award ceremonies and are invited to participate in summer academic opportunities offered by participating South Carolina colleges and universities and the Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics.
The South Carolina Junior Scholars Program identifies eighth-grade students with exceptional academic talent and provides opportunities that support intellectual growth, broaden individual interests, and promote scholastic achievement. The program reflects the statewide effort to improve education and respond to the needs of students with outstanding academic ability.
