The Florence School District 3 Board of Trustees has named Dr. Shawn Suber as the district’s next superintendent, pending successful contract negotiations.
The announcement was made following a called board meeting on April 1, after trustees returned from executive session. The board voted unanimously to offer the position to Dr. Suber and authorized Board Chairman Jason Kirby and the district’s attorney to negotiate the terms of the contract.
Dr. Suber is completing his 24th year in public education, with experience evenly divided between central office leadership and school-level administration. He currently serves as Executive Director of Instructional Extensions and Support in Richland School District Two, which serves approximately 29,000 students.
Previously, he served as Director of MTSS/State and Federal Programs. At the school level, Dr. Suber has held roles as a principal, assistant principal, and school counselor. During his tenure as principal, his school earned multiple distinctions, including Title I Reward School, Magnet School of Distinction, and the Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards for closing the achievement gap.
Dr. Suber earned his Ph.D., Educational Specialist, and Master of Education degrees from the University of South Carolina. He also holds a Master of Education in School Counseling from Winthrop University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology from Newberry College.
“We are excited to move forward with Dr. Suber as our next superintendent,” said Board Chairman Jason Kirby. “His depth of experience at both the school and district levels, along with his proven commitment to student achievement and closing academic gaps, made him a standout choice. We look forward to working with him to advance the district’s vision and create new opportunities for our students, staff and communities.”
