FSD3 Announces Four Finalists for Superintendent

The Florence School District 3 Board of Trustees has identified four finalists in its search for the district’s next superintendent. The finalists will be interviewed by the full Board of Trustees on March 9 and March 11. The board anticipates naming a permanent superintendent later this spring.

Board Chairman Jason Kirby said the finalists bring a strong mix of instructional leadership, executive management experience and deep knowledge of public education in South Carolina and beyond.

“Our board is pleased to announce four highly qualified finalists who represent a wide range of experience in school leadership, district administration and organizational management,” said Mr. Kirby. “Each candidate has demonstrated a strong commitment to student achievement and possesses the academic preparation and professional background necessary to lead Florence School District 3 into its next chapter.”

The finalists are:

 

Dr. Myron E. Davis

Dr. Myron E. Davis brings more than 27 years of experience in public education, having served in instructional and administrative leadership roles across Richland County School District One, Marion County School District, Florence 1 Schools and Williamsburg County School District.

He currently serves as Executive Director of Public Relations and the Office of Teaching, Learning and Leadership Support for Williamsburg County School District. In this role, he oversees districtwide instructional improvement, leadership development, strategic communications and community engagement initiatives.

Dr. Davis began his career as a third-grade teacher in Richland School District One and has since served in a variety of school and district-level leadership roles. He also served as principal of Kenneth Gardner Elementary School, where the school earned recognition as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School.

In addition to his public school leadership, Dr. Davis is lead consultant for The Higher Standard Consulting Group, LLC, providing guidance in budget alignment, organizational design and systems improvement. He has also served in higher education roles at Florence-Darlington Technical College and the University of Phoenix.

He is also the co-founder of the former Adventures and Exploration Academy in Charlotte, NC, an intervention-focused school model designed to serve students through innovative programming and structured support systems. He is the published author of Black Father Figures, a work that reflects his commitment to family engagement, mentorship and the broader social context of student success.

Dr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with honors from South Carolina State University, a Master of Business Administration from Webster University, an Educational Specialist degree from South Carolina State University and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University.

Damon Pitt has more than 20 years of experience in public education, serving as a teacher and principal at both the K-8 and high school levels. Throughout his career, he has led school improvement initiatives focused on raising graduation rates, reducing chronic absenteeism and strengthening school culture.

He currently serves as Senior Director of Attendance for a large urban school district, where he leads districtwide strategies to improve student outcomes through data-driven planning and cross-functional collaboration. In this role, he works closely with school leaders and community partners to address barriers to student attendance and engagement.

Mr. Pitt has also mentored emerging school leaders as a Teach for America Detroit Leads Coach and serves as co-chair of a mayoral education transition committee focused on citywide education reform efforts.

He holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and certification in K–12 school administration.

Dr. Shawn Suber

Dr. Shawn Suber is completing his 24th year in public education, with experience evenly divided between central office leadership and school-level administration. He currently serves as executive director of instructional extensions and support in Richland School District Two, a district serving approximately 29,000 students.

Previously, he served as Director of MTSS/State and Federal Programs. At the school level, Dr. Suber has served as principal, assistant principal and school counselor. During his tenure as principal, his school earned multiple distinctions, including Title I Reward School, Magnet School of Distinction, and the Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards for closing the achievement gap.

Dr. Suber earned his Ph.D., Educational Specialist and Master of Education degrees from the University of South Carolina. He also holds a Master of Education in School Counseling from Winthrop University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology from Newberry College.

Dr. Kelvin Wymbs

Dr. Kelvin Wymbs has 24 years of experience in public education and has served in roles ranging from classroom teacher to principal, central office administrator, and most recently superintendent.

In his most recent position as superintendent in Williamsburg County, he led districtwide improvement efforts that resulted in all schools earning ratings of average to excellent on the 2023-2024 state report card. During his tenure, the district launched a $34 million GEAR UP program focused on supporting middle school students in college and career readiness.

Dr. Wymbs previously earned recognition as the Southern Regional Education Board 2015 Outstanding High School That Works National Principal and received the 2016 SCABSE Outstanding Educator Award.

He holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from South Carolina State University, an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College, a Master of Education in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and a Bachelor of Science in History from the University of South Carolina Aiken.
