FSD3 Announces 22-23 Administrative Appointments

Florence School District 3’s Board of Trustees approved recommendations made by Superintendent Dr. Laura Hickson for principals at four schools and five district administrative appointments for the 2022-2023 school year.

The following administrators will serve as principals next school Year:

  1. Mr. Terrell Fleming was named principal of Lake City High School, former principal of Ronald E McNair Junior High.
  2. Ms. Charm Eaddy was named principal at Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High.
  3. Mrs. Melanie Dukes McKnight was named principal at Olanta Creative Arts & Science Magnet School.
  4. Jami Kirby was named principal at Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy. 

Shanda Poston and Tonyelle Thomas will transition from roles as school principals to a position at the district level as Academic Support Services Administrators. Hope Gibson was named the Director of Finance. Brian Huckabee will assume the role of director of maintenance and facilities, while Mitch Driggers was named assistant director of facilities and maintenance.

Mr. Fleming has served as principal of Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High for the past two years. He previously was the assistant principal at Main Street Elementary School. Before becoming a school administrator, Fleming was a math teacher at Lake City High School and was the head varsity football coach. He also was a math teacher in Florence One Schools, where he was named South Florence High School’s Teacher of the Year in 2011-2012. He also taught math in Anderson School District Five.

Mr. Fleming is a 2002 graduate of East Clarendon High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching mathematics from Clemson University in 2006 and a Master of Sports Science degree in Sports Management in 2009 from the United Sports Academy. Mr. Fleming then earned an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership in Principalship in 2017 from Arkansas State University.

Mr. Fleming and his wife, Anita Chandler Fleming, are the parents of four children. He is a Greater St. Stephens Baptist Church member in Lake City.

“My educational philosophy is that all students can rise to the occasion when given learning opportunities,” Fleming said.

Charm Eaddy

Eaddy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Furman University, a Master of Education from Cambridge College, and an Education Specialist degree from Liberty University.

Eaddy has been an educator for over 20 years and has served in various roles in FSD3, including Teacher, administrative assistant, athletic coach, and assistant principal. Eaddy was named the 2019-2020 Teacher of Year for Florence District 3 and the school-level teacher-or-the-Year twice. She has served as an assistant principal at Lake City High School for the past two years.

Melanie Dukes McKnight

McKnight earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Claflin University, a master’s in Education, and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University.

She taught fifth grade at Olanta Elementary School before being named the school’s assistant principal. She served one year as an assistant principal at J Paul Truluck Creative Arts and Science Magnet School. She also taught second through fifth grades in Orangeburg District 5 and served as a Curriculum Specialist in Williamsburg County.

McKnight and her husband, Reginald, have three sons; Kristan, Reginald Jr, and Cory (Keyliseeya). She also has two grandsons; Cory Jr and Casen. She is a member of Shekinah Temple Ministries.

“I believe that all things are possible with hard work and perseverance,” she said. “We do what needs to be done until we get the needed results.”

Kirby earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion University in 2010 and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Coastal Carolina University in 2014. She also completed FSD3’s Aspiring Principal Academy this year.

Kirby has served as Scranton Elementary’s assistant principal since 2018 and was FSD3’s Assistant Principal of the Year for 2020-2021. She has taught second and third grades at Main Street Elementary and Olanta Elementary, where she was the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2015-2016. She also was a math instructional coach at Olanta before becoming STEM coordinator at Scranton Elementary.

I am extremely honored and truly blessed to be named principal of Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy,” Kirby said. “Over the past six years, SESA has accomplished so many great things, and I consider myself lucky to have been a small part of that. I am thrilled to continue working with the staff and students as we receive STEM re-accreditation through Cognia, grow our Leader in Me program as we move to Year 2 of implementation, and increase academic achievement for all students,” she added.

Shanda Poston

Poston was principal at Scranton Elementary for four years and the school’s assistant principal for four years. She also has served as a math teacher in grades 6-8.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Coastal Carolina University and later earned certification in middle school mathematics. She earned a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Scranton.

She and her husband, Louie Poston, have one daughter, Aly, who attends Coastal Carolina University and is majoring in Early Childhood Education. 

“I am looking forward to this new experience and am grateful for the opportunity to continue supporting student achievement in Florence School District 3,” Poston said.

Tonyelle Thomas

Thomas has served as principal of Olanta Creative Arts & Science Magnet School for the past four years. She began her education career in FSD3, teaching in grades 3-5, and was a STEM mentor teacher at Lake City Elementary. Thomas later served as math instructional coach and administrative assistant and then as assistant principal at Main Street Elementary School. She also served as a math interventionist and administrative assistant at Lake City Early Childhood Center.

She graduated magna cum laude from Francis Marion University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. She also has been accepted into the doctorate program for educational leadership to begin this summer at Arkansas State University.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve in this capacity to support student growth and achievement across our great district,” Thomas said.

Hope Gibson

Gibson has served as FSD3’s assistant director of finance since 2018.  Since joining FSD3, she has worked in data entry in accounts payable, as a bookkeeper specialist, fund ledger specialist and senior fund ledger specialist.

She is a graduate of Berkeley High School and earned an Associate of Science degree in accounting from Trident Technical College. She completed the South Carolina Association of School Business Officials (SCASBO) certification program. She is a member of SCASBO and South Carolina Association of School Administrators.

Brian Huckabee

Huckabee also serves as the district’s director of communications and technology.

He is a Lake City High School graduate and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Francis Marion University. He worked at Williamsburg Technical College in the public information office for five years before named the same position in FSD3 and Director of Communications and Technology.

Mitch Driggers

Driggers has worked as a maintenance foreman for FSD3 since 2012. He is a licensed mechanical contractor in South Carolina with over 22 years of electrical experience. He worked as an electrician in the private sector before joining FSD3.

He is a graduate of East Clarendon High School and attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and The Citadel.
