Florence County School District Three has named Ronnie Baker as the next head varsity football coach at Lake City Early College High School. At a called meeting Tuesday, FCSD3’s board of trustees voted to approve the district administration’s recommendation to hire Baker.

“It is an honor and a privilege to come back and be the head football coach where I started my teaching and coaching career,” Baker said after the announcement. “I look forward to working with the students-athletes, community and the Florence Three family to build a football program that we can be proud of.”

Baker was head football coach and athletic director at Timmonsville High School for the past year.

“I’ve known Coach Baker since our days working together on Coach Mickey Moss’ staff,” said Matt Apicella, LCECHS athletic director. “He has the work ethic, attention to detail and discipline we were looking for in a head football coach. I am excited to watch him work with our student-athletes and community.”

Baker was an assistant football coach at Lake City High School where he coached running backs and defensive secondary under head coach Mickey Moss from 1998-2004. During that period, he also coached varsity girls’ basketball and boys’ track and was a third-grade teacher at Lake City Elementary School.

Baker also has served as an assistant coach at Marlboro County High School from 2004-2006, as defensive coordinator at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School from 2006-2008 and as co-offensive coordinator at Fairfield Central High School from 2008-2009. He was head varsity football coach at Eau Claire High School from 2009-2012 and defensive coordinator at Lexington High School from 2012-2013. Baker was defensive coordinator at Sumter High School from 2013-2015 and at Chester High School from 2015-2017.

Baker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education from Chowan University and a Master of Science in educational leadership from Capella University.
