Florence School District 3 hosted its Annual Back-to-School Parenting Conference for parents, guardians and students on Thursday, August 13, in the Lake City High School gymnasium.
The event featured presentations on topics that matter most to families, including strategies for student success, important updates on district initiatives, and tips for navigating the new school year.
The keynote speaker for the conference was Dr. Tammy Pawloski, a former teacher who has led more than 1000 professional learning events for teachers, school leaders, and stakeholders. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, and she currently holds a dual appointment of Professor of Early Childhood Education and Director of the Center of Excellence to Prepare Teachers of Children of Poverty at Francis Marion University.
Dr. Pawloski talked to parents and students about ways to prepare and stimulate the brain for learning. She said talking to a young child and reading to them daily builds pathways within the brain, leading to greater cognitive development.
Attendees also received free school supplies, door prizes and the opportunity to connect with district leaders and staff.
