
Florence School District 3 has announced Mary Howard as its new Chief Academic Officer for the 2025–2026 school year.
In her new role, Howard will oversee the implementation of academic programs and initiatives designed to accelerate student achievement, close performance gaps, and increase graduation rates across the district. Her appointment marks a continued commitment by the district to raise academic standards and ensure equitable opportunities for all students.
Howard, a seasoned educator with more than 16 years of experience in instructional leadership, curriculum development, and district-level planning, has been a familiar presence in Florence 3. Since 2019, she has served as the district’s Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Her career also includes principal roles at both Lake City Early Childhood Center and Olanta Elementary School.
“I am honored and excited to step into the role of Chief Academic Officer,” Mrs. Howard said. “Florence School District 3 is filled with passionate educators and talented students, and I look forward to working collaboratively to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education and the support they need to succeed. Together, we will continue to raise the bar for academic excellence across our district.”
Howard’s educational credentials reflect a strong foundation in leadership and student support. She holds an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Superintendency from Arkansas State University, along with a Master of Education in Administration and a Master of Science in Counseling from Capella University. She also earned a Master of Education in Learning Disabilities from Francis Marion University and a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science/Child Development from South Carolina State University.
Interim Superintendent Kasey Feagin praised Howard’s contributions to the district and her forward-thinking leadership. “Mrs. Howard has consistently demonstrated her commitment to educational excellence and equity,” Mrs. Feagin said. “Her deep understanding of our students' needs and her strategic approach to academic planning will be instrumental in shaping the future of Florence School District 3.”
