Thank you for your interest in volunteering in our schools!
Educators may be superheroes, but even heroes can't do it all on their own. You can play a direct role in improving our schools.
Before you begin the application process, please take a moment to carefully read this message. It contains important information to help you successfully complete your application.
Criminal Background Check Requirements:
To ensure the safety of our students, all volunteer applicants must undergo a background check. This includes a nationwide criminal history check, a Sex Offender Registry check, and Social Security verification. While each application is reviewed individually, certain convictions are automatic disqualifiers, including all felony convictions and serious misdemeanors such as crimes against children, domestic violence, and significant drug or alcohol-related offenses.
Please note: There is a non-refundable $26.00 fee to cover the cost of the background check.
Tips for Completing Your Application:
- Match Your ID Information: Make sure the details you enter match exactly what appears on your government-issued ID. Use your full legal name as shown on your Social Security card, driver’s license, or state-issued ID—no nicknames or titles.
- Provide a Valid Email Address:
We’ll need to notify you about your application status. If you do not have an email address, contact the FSD3 Human Resources Department for assistance.
- Select the School(s) and Volunteer Role(s):
You can choose more than one school to volunteer at. You may list multiple roles, but if you plan to attend any field trips, be sure to select “Chaperone” as one of your functions.
- No Social Security Number?
If you don’t have a Social Security number, please contact the FSD3 Human Resources Department for assistance completing the application in person.
- Processing Time:
Most applications are processed within 48 to 72 hours, but some may take 7 to 10 days depending on how long the criminal history check takes in certain states. Use this time to complete the Safe Schools Training videos. The training videos will take approximately 1 hour, 12 minutes to complete.
Once you have completed the process, you will receive a Volunteer ID card to verify that you are an approved volunteer.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s school, email [email protected], or call 843-374-8652.
Steps for Volunteer Approval:
- An individual completes an application, which is turned in to the Human Resources Department.
- A Principal/Department Lead submits a recommendation if a volunteer is needed for a particular program/event.
- Once a recommendation is received, the FSD3 Human Resources Department will conduct the appropriate background/sexual offender checks. The cost for the background check is $26.00 which must be paid by the individual. In some cases, the school/department may pay the background fee, if special funds are available.
- The applicant completes all required Safe Schools Trainings and turns in TB test results.
- Once all steps are completed, the Human Resources Department will clear the volunteer to begin; an ID card is issued, with the validity and expiration dates.
Please Note: The volunteer is cleared to volunteer once they receive their Volunteer ID. Individuals are not eligible to begin until they have their Volunteer ID issued by Florence Three.
