Posted on 08/28/2023

In Florence School District 3, the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.

We are committed to providing a safe learning environment for all.

For our schools to be safe spaces for teaching and learning, we will not tolerate assaults and fights. We ask our stakeholders to work with our schools as we enforce the following safety expectations:

Assaults

If a student assaults another student, the student will attend a hearing, enroll in a virtual school setting or alternative placement for at least 45 days, and face charges. Additionally, the student will be on District Level Probation and referred for counseling or therapy.

1st assault – Suspended pending a hearing – placed on District Level Probation and assigned to virtual or alternative placement

2nd assault – Referral for an expulsion hearing

Fights

If a student is involved in a mutual fight, the student will attend a hearing, enroll in a virtual school setting or alternative placement for up to 90 days, and may face charges. Additionally, the student will be on District Level Probation and referred for counseling or therapy.

1st fight – 3 days OSS - The student is referred for an administrative hearing and placed in a virtual or alternative setting for at least 45 days.

2nd fight – 5 days OSS - The student is referred for an administrative hearing and assigned to a virtual or alternative setting for at least 45 days. Additionally, the student will be on District Level Probation and referred for counseling or therapy.

*These sanctions are standard procedures and may be altered at the discretion of the Superintendent or appealed to the Board of Trustees based on the evidence associated with the infraction.

FSD3 will not tolerate behaviors that compromise the safety of our schools.

I appreciate your support as we maintain a SAFE academic learning environment for ALL FSD3 students and staff.
