FCSD3 Board Names Two School Principals For 2016-2017

Two Florence County School District Three schools will have new principals when school begins Aug. 15.

At its regular monthly meeting Thursday, the board of trustees named Dr. Cutina Powell Barrineau principal of Olanta Elementary School and Kristi Anderson principal of Ronald E. McNair Junior High.

Dr. Barrineau has spent 10 of her 20 years in education with FCSD3 as a teacher and school administrator. Before joining FCSD3, Dr. Barrineau was

employed with Williamsburg County School District where she began her educational career as a middle level English/ language arts and social studies teacher. In 1996, Dr. Barrineau joined the faculty of the then M. B. Lee Primary School in Hemingway where she taught a range of grade levels and subjects as well as served as the assistant school test coordinator. From 2004 until joining FSCD3, Dr. Barrineau served as a school-level Title I and curriculum improvement coordinator/coach at first Chavis Elementary and D.P. Cooper Elementary.

During Dr. Barrineau’s 13 years with the Williamsburg County School District, she was named teacher of the year for M.B. Lee, Sr. Primary, was the recipient of the Williamsburg County School District Mini Technology Grant as well as a Reading is Fundamental grant, an assistive technology grant, and a Santee Electric “Bright Ideas” grant. In addition, Dr. Barrineau has since been the recipient of several grants with the most recipient being a Wal-Mart Community Grant for a Snack Pack Friday program and a Francis Marion Center of Excellence grant for a “Comprehension Retention Lab” program.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1995 from Coastal Carolina University. In 2004, she earned her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Education (Educational Leadership) from NovaSoutheastern University in 2008.

Dr. Barrineau is a native of the Earles community of Andrews. She has two children, Kailey and LeeWayne, and has been married to Solon W. Barrineau since 1995.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining the Olanta Elementary family,” Barrineau said. “I look forward to working together as a team with the faculty, staff, students and parents, as well as the Olanta community to ensure all students: Act Their Best! Do Their Best! Believe and Achieve Success!”

Ms. Anderson, the district’s director of New Tech and secondary education, has spent her 26-year career in FCSD3, beginning in 1990 as an eighth grade teacher at J.C. Lynch. She also taught all subject areas in grades 6-12 at both Ronald E. McNair Junior High and Lake City High School. She served as a master teacher at Ronald E. McNair Junior High, Lake City High and J.C. Lynch Elementary as well as an assistant principal at Lake City High, where she was instrumental in implementing the New Tech initiative.

She was named Teacher of the Year at Ronald E. McNair Junior High. She also served as assistant athletic director at Lake City High and coached volleyball, basketball and softball.

Ms. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Francis Marion University and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina. She is certified in elementary education for all subjects, middle school math and middle and high school administration.

“I appreciate the faith placed in me by Superintendent Laura Hickson and the board of trustees,” Ms. Anderson said. “I couldn't be more proud to have the opportunity to serve as principal of Ronald E. McNair Junior High. I have spent the majority of my career at the school and I am excited to be going home. I believe to teach in a manner that respects and cares for the souls of our students is essential if we are to provide the necessary conditions where learning can most deeply and intimately begin,” she added.
