Members of the Carver High School Alumni Association returned to Ronald E. McNair Middle School, the school they once attended, on May 8 to give back to their alma mater.

Association President Peter Gaskins presented a $550 check to Media Specialist Amanda Cullars to support her reading program.

Ronald E. McNair Middle School students participate in the Scholastic Reading Counts Program and are asked to read 40 books a year for academic success, and the majority of students surpass the goal. The school continues to be the top Reading Counts School in Florence School District Three and the surrounding Florence County schools.

Caver High School Alumni Association’s donation will go towards trophies to the top 10 readers per grade level.

In addition to Gaskins, Carver alumni on hand for the presentation were Latson W. Cockfield, Clarence Hunter, Edward Fulmore, Delores Darby, Gloria Tisdale, Betsy Graham and Shirley Thomas.
